No internet. No profiles. No infinite scroll.
Turn your phone into a single-purpose learning device for your kid.
Slatey locks your Android phone down to just learning — reading, phonics, spelling and maths — with no way online, no profiles, and nothing engineered to hook a child. Only your code unlocks it.
- Android only
- Reading-led
- Earn-to-play games
- Ages 4–7

Only your parent code ends it.
The three fears Slatey removes
No internet.
No profiles.
No infinite scroll.
The fear: distraction
No internet.
Locked to learning — no browser, no apps, no feed. Nothing online can reach your child, and your child can't reach it.
The fear: being watched
No profiles.
No accounts, no progress files, no behavioural data. Slatey tracks nothing about your child, because it collects nothing.
The fear: addiction
No infinite scroll.
No endless feed, no autoplay. A daily limit and earn-to-play games make it a tool that stops, not a machine that pulls.
The lockdown is the product. The learning is the value inside it.
NO INTERNET
No way online, by design
In Slatey Mode the phone is cut off from the internet — no browser, no apps, no feed. Nothing online can reach your child, and your child can't reach it. Only incoming calls still ring through.
NO PROFILES
We track nothing about your child
No profiles, no accounts, no progress files, no behavioural data — none of it exists. Slatey can't watch your child because it collects nothing. Private by construction, not by policy.
NO INFINITE SCROLL
Learning that ends on purpose
No endless feed, no autoplay, nothing engineered to hook. A daily limit and earn-to-play games make Slatey a tool that stops — the opposite of a machine built to pull.
PARENT-LOCKED
Your child can't get out
No home button, no app-switching, no settings to wander into. Slatey Mode only ends when a parent enters a PIN or unlocks with biometrics — until then, the phone stays Slatey.
A REAL LEARNING SUITE
Reading-led, with maths too
Balanced literacy — phonics and sight words — plus spelling, maths (BODMAS) and read-along storybooks for ages 4–7. Narration is always on for pre-readers; every tap is guided.
EARNED PLAY
Games they unlock by learning
A small set of 8-bit games are the reward — earned by finishing lessons, and capped by a hard parent ceiling. Play motivates reading, without becoming the main event.
CALM BY DESIGN
E-ink-style, gentle on battery
A grayscale, paper-like, glow-free interface that reads like a book — and a dark, static, network-free screen that sips battery instead of guzzling it.
No new device. Just one tap on the phone in your pocket.
Set up once
Install Slatey on your Android phone, set a parent PIN (and biometric, if you like), and follow the guided one-time setup that gives Slatey its lock.
Tap “Enter Slatey Mode”
Hand the phone over. It becomes a single-purpose learning device — internet off, every other app sealed away, nothing to wander into.
Your PIN brings it back
Your child reads and plays but can't get out. Unlock with your PIN or biometric whenever you want — and it's an ordinary phone again.
Enter parent code to exit
Slatey stays on until you unlock it.
Built for Android
A real lock, not a polite request.
On Android, Slatey Mode uses the phone’s own kiosk controls to genuinely take over — no app-switching, no notifications, no internet — until your PIN or biometric unlocks it. It takes a guided one-time setup to grant that, and we’re honest about the limits: a physical power-press can’t be fully blocked, and Slatey is Android-only for now.
The same phone. A completely different machine.
The worry was never reading. It was everything else the glowing rectangle smuggles in. Slatey Mode keeps the reading and strips out the rest — turning the phone you already own into something calm enough to hand a four-year-old.
Play they earn. Reading they want to do.
Most kids’ apps dangle games and bury the learning. Slatey flips it: finish a lesson, earn a few minutes of play — and the play stays small, because you set the ceiling.
Reading-led, genuinely broad
Balanced literacy — phonics and sight words — plus spelling, maths (BODMAS), read-along storybooks and activities. Narration is always on for pre-readers.
Games they earn by learning
A small set of 8-bit games is the reward, unlocked by finishing lessons. Learning is the path to play — so wanting to play means wanting to read.
You hold the ceiling
However much they earn, your hard daily game-minute cap holds. The reward can never quietly become the main event — that's the whole point.
Reward unlocked
A small, calm world built entirely around reading.

“Who will help me plantthem?” she said.
“Not I,” said the cat.

A waitlist, not a launch.
Slatey isn't out yet. You're reserving founding pricing and a place at the front of the line. There's a 7-day free trial at launch, and nothing is subscribed or charged until you say go.
We track nothing about your child.
We only ever store your phone (and email, if you give it) for the parent account — never anything about your child. Held securely under India's DPDP Act.
